Celebrating Your Engagement at Home

Partner

If you have recently got engaged, congratulations! This is an exciting time for you and your partner, and there is a lot of planning to pull off your perfect wedding. You might find yourself still floating on cloud nine for months to come, and one of the first things to do when you have said ‘yes’ to that all-important question is to celebrate your engagement. Some people like to hire a venue to host their engagement party, but if you and your partner would prefer to do this at home, here are some tips to help make hosting easier.

Send Out Invitations in Advance

While you might not want to wait months after you have got engaged to host your party, you should let your guests know about it in advance. Sending invites out about a month before the party is usually enough time, and aim to host it either Friday or Saturday night when the majority of people won’t have to worry about work the next morning. You can send invitations via email, but as this is a special occasion, consider sending more formal invitations in the post.

Prepare Food in Advance

Serving your guests some homemade treats will be a lovely touch and certainly add to the intimate, homey feel your party will have been hosted in your house. Choose foods that can be prepared in advance and frozen, as this will save you a lot of time on the day of your engagement party. If you are celebrating in the summer, you could even combine a classic BBQ get-together with your engagement celebrations if you wanted to. Alternatively, if you want the party to feel more formal and don’t want to prepare the food yourself, you can hire a catering company to take care of the food for you.

Stock the Bar

As well as making sure that your guests have plenty of food, you’ll also need to make sure that there are plenty of drinks that people can toast your engagement with. Champagne or sparkling wine is perfect for celebrating, but serving up some delicious cocktails is also a great idea. You could even choose or create a signature one to represent you and your partner as a couple. Make sure there are plenty of non-alcoholic beverages as well for younger guests, those who don’t drink alcohol, or those who are driving. Don’t want to worry about making sure everyone’s glass is full? Hire a bartending service from Event Bartender to take care of that for you.

Decoration

Decorations can help to add to the atmosphere and make it feel like a special occasion, and celebrating your recent engagement is one of the best things that you could celebrate. The flower arrangement will always work well for romantic parties like this and will make excellent centerpieces on tables. Delicate bunting hung up on the walls or in the trees if you’re celebrating outside would also work well, and perhaps adding some string lights for a soft lighting option when the sunsets. Adding a little glitter or sparkle somewhere can help your home feel festive too.

If you and your partner want to celebrate your engagement with your loved ones at home, use these tips to make it feel more special than your average dinner party and be a night that everyone will remember.
